Migrants Organise and UN Refugee Agency  seventh annual Women on the Move Awards at the WoW Festival in March 2018

Migrants and refugees cross borders to live among us for many reasons. Some come fleeing human rights abuses. Some come to join other members of their families. Some come to take up work or study. But when they arrive here they often find that they face new challenges and problems. Some not only rise to these challenges for themselves, they also help others to succeed. The Women on the Move Awards celebrates and promote the contribution that migrant and refugee women, the media and their champions can make towards facing down prejudice and inspiring others.

This year there are four categories of awards. The Woman of the Year and Young Woman of the Year awards celebrate women who, having migrated or fled persecution, provide essential support and inspiring leadership at the grassroots to others starting a new life in the UK (nominations close on 8th December 2017 for these categories). The Sue lloyd-Roberts Media Award  (nominations for this category close on 31st January 2018) recognises the outstanding work of a journalist or producer whose reporting has promoted the protection needs of migrant and refugee women. The Champion Award will also be presented to those who work to protect or promote the rights and/or integration needs of UK-based migrant and refugee women.

The response to these awards has always been so positive; winners and runners-up have told us how being nominated and recognised for their contribution has a huge impact on their confidence and sense of achievement. Being a part of this celebration of female empowerment, leadership and commitment to positive change is both inspirational and uplifting. So PLEASE, if you know a woman who deserves this sort of recognition, nominate her  below.
